The Assignment / Client’s Problem

  • Our client a multi-national E&P company was looking to grow its portfolio over the SE Asia region
  • The company was looking for a ranking and review of the best planned drilling opportunities over 8 different basins

Westwood’s Approach & Analysis

  • Project was primarily driven by Westwood’s proprietary database and Wildcat Service
  • Westwood identified the most interesting plays by basins, and provided a view on the play maturity, scale of yet-to-find resources, scale of the prospects and associated risk profiles
  • In addition, Westwood provided a relative benchmarking   of operators’ exploration performance in each basin from 2001 to 2011
  • Westwood also technically ranked the most interesting drilling opportunities from its prospect database and provided a technical view of the prospectivity and associated risk factors for each of them

The Outcome & Benefit

  • Westwood’s approach helped to screen a very large region efficiently over a limited time period, thereby helping the Client to focus its own efforts on key opportunities in the right areas
  • Following the successful completion of this project, Westwood was engaged by the client to undertake and repeat a similar exercise in the Caribbean, Azerbaijan and Central Asia regions
