The Assignment / Client’s Problem

  • Evaluation of the energy value chain across Renewables, Upstream, Midstream and Downstream to identify particular demand centres
  • To provide acquisition scouting services, and support the potential acquisition of small and medium-sized EPC houses

Westwood’s Approach & Analysis

  • Proprietary data tracks assets across the global energy value chain, including fixed and floating platforms, subsea & surface trees, onshore LNG terminals, FLNG terminals, pipelines, downstream facilities, and offshore wind turbines
  • Bespoke modelling allowed Westwood to gauge market size by expenditure, number of assets, and scale of asset by major country and region
  • Comprehensive review of small and medium-sized EPC firms served to identify suitable acquisition targets
  • Target profiling, inclusive of service review, market exposure, key clients, KPIs, facilities, employee numbers, and high level financial diligence
  • Facilitated an interactive workshop to help evaluate and establish relevant acquisition criteria

The Outcome & Benefit

  • Phase I included a high level pre-screening exercise across the energy value chain to identify specific growth sectors of interest as the client intended to execute an inorganic growth strategy
  • Having identified the sectors of particular interest, Phase II was an acquisition scouting exercise where Westwood identified potential targets that matched our client’s selection criteria
  • Floating LNG underpinned by robust, long-term fundamentals and associated engineering services was identified as the ‘best fit’ considering our client’s strengths and strategic objectives
