The Role
Westwood Global Energy Group is a leading provider of market intelligence, commercial analysis and strategic advice to the global energy industry. Powered by proprietary, industry-leading data and analytics, our insights support both day-to-day commercial operations and critical decision-making at the highest levels of energy-related corporations, as well as the financial sector. We are seeking a Research Analyst to join our Aberdeen or London office. The successful applicant will primarily focus on the global land drilling rig market, conducting primary and secondary research and analysis to support Westwood’s global client base.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the Global Land Rigs product, including fleet size by company and country, dayrate information, as well as status and specification information for individual rigs.
- Monitor and analyse global oil and gas news flow and produce daily news summaries related to the land drilling rig market, as well as a quarterly piece summarising the key news stories from the preceding quarter.
- Generate analysis and market commentary via written reports for external and internal stakeholders.
- Gather data for onshore drilling/land rig contracts via primary and secondary research and the development of industry network of contacts.
- Assist in mapping the supply chain, commercial landscapes and contracting trends related to the global land rig market.
- Develop detailed domain knowledge on the macro environment which drives the energy industry, with a specific focus on oil and gas and geothermal, as well as any other emerging trends that could impact the onshore drilling market.
- Establish and develop industry networks, as well as attend client meetings, industry events and conferences.
- Provide thought leadership on the macro-fundamentals shaping investment into onshore drilling campaigns and rig construction/upgrades.
- Collaboration with other Westwood research and consulting teams across our global offices to provide unique and best-in-class insights to our clients across the energy industry.

Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 2-5 years of data research and analytics experience
- Proven data gathering skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (data handling/manipulation)
- Excellent verbal and written English
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with data science programmes (Python, R)
- Knowledge of the energy industry, especially oil and gas and geothermal
