The role

We are currently looking for a Data Analyst to join our UK based team. The successful applicant will focus on identification and implementation of digital solutions to improve the efficiency, analysis, insight and communication of our oil and gas exploration research teams.  

Key responsibilities (including but not limited to)

  • Review of workflows of Westwood’s research analysts and identify technology-based solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy and completeness.
  • Development and implementation of workflows to extract data and information from a wide variety of public domain sources and collaborate/liaise with Westwood’s technology function to integrate these into internal databases.
  • Work with Westwood’s GIS functions to facilitate the efficiency, integration, and accuracy of Westwood’s geographic information systems.
  • Recommend changes to the way research is presented to and consumed by clients.
  • Development and maintenance of self-serve dashboards (e.g. PowerBI) to track various activities and performance across the upstream energy industry.
  • Monitoring of industry trends, emerging technologies and best practises in data analytics and business intelligence developments across the international energy industry, including competitors.
  • Support Westwood’s team of geoscience analysts in researching and loading data from various sources.
  • Support Westwood’s sales, marketing and technology functions in tracking user interactions and trends to support and inform Westwood’s research strategies.
  • Feed into development of data governance frameworks, data quality standards, and best practices to ensure data integrity, compliance with regulations, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert (SME) on data analytics, provide guidance, mentorship, and training to staff, and contribute to team development initiatives.
  • Support ad-hoc project work and consulting initiatives.

Essential skills and qualifications

  • At least two years experience of working in business intelligence or a technology-based research and analysis organisation
  • Expert knowledge of MS Office suite, including Excel and PowerBI. Experience, knowledge and desire to learn a programming language such as R, Python, and/or SQL/no-SQL database languages.
  • Experience interacting with APIs, public data feeds and web scraping tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Continued strong interest in the oil & gas sector.
  • Familiarity with GIS applications and/or data.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the upstream oil and gas industry, especially geoscience and exploration is an advantage but not essential.
