Upstream Investment Outlook Q4 2016 – an introduction by Andrew Reid CEO

An independent view on the current and future state of the upstream oil & gas market

Over the last two years our industry has faced one of the worst downturns in the history of the sector. Lay-offs, expenditure cuts, and oil price speculation have dominated the headlines, as operators and service companies alike look for shelter from the storm.

Presently all sectors are challenged, with few firms and business segments evading the effects of sub-$50/bbl oil. Looking ahead, the industry continues to face a broad set of challenges but also opportunities albeit constrained by high levels of uncertainty and a limited scope for oil price recovery. Britain’s impending exit from the EU, the battle for market share between OPEC and US shale producers and relatively-slow economic growth in China and other emerging markets compound these challenges.

In this context, Douglas-Westwood has launched a new report to provide its independent view on the current, and future, state of the upstream oil & gas market – in order to educate investors and guide businesses through the coming months and years.

I am proud to introduce this latest offering from DW Research and hope that the Upstream Investment Outlook can become a useful tool in guiding traders, business planners, investors and all upstream supply chain players to make better-educated business and investment decisions.
